Mounts attach to various external hard points on ship hulls and provide a movable standard platform for weapons (and other devices that need outside access) to attach to. A mount's primary duty is to point the attached weapon in the correct direction so it hits the intended target. Different mounts have different primary stats effecting their movement rate, accuracy, range of motion, and size limits.
Good mounts are vitally important in face-paced space battles, as if your mount can't align and track a fast-moving ship, you won't be able to hit it.
